Michael Proudfoot MA(RCA)
Michael is a graduate of the Royal College of Art Film School, he has over thirty years experience making television documentaries and films for industrial clients. For Channel 4 he has produced landmark history documentaries such as “1000AD” a documentary with dramatic reconstructions using eminent historians to tell of what Britain was like at the turn of the first millennium. Michael also produced the Classics Series for Channel 4 (Classic Ships, Classic Cars, Classic Homes and more) these where social history programmes on vehicles, architecture and the workplace. Michael also made several science documentaries for the Channel 4 series Equinox, one of them, “Moving Pictures” featured Doctor Jonathan Miller on the neurology behind the illusion of Cinema. His Equinox film “Zen and The Art of Television Manufacture” won a BAFTA.
For Channel Five Michael produced “Where Do We Come From?”, an archaeological series fronted by Professor Clive Gamble that traced the origins of man on planet earth, “Canaletto in England” about the artist’s time in London in the 18th century and “The Sidney Soap Opera House”, the history of architect Yorn Utzon’s struggle to achieve his vision for the famous opera house. Michael also produced and directed a number of award winning films and videos for industrial clients
After 18 years as the Creative Director of Uden Associates Michael formed Proudfoot ltd in 2004. Proudfoot Ltd continues to grow making a wide variety of content for the internet, social media and broadcast television. In 2011 Michael executive produced an acclaimed one-hour history documentary for BBC2, “Brave New World” about the 1951 Festival of Britain. Michael has taught “Narrative In Documentary” at the Edinburgh TV festival’s TVYP (Television for Young People). Over the last ten years he has interviewed on camera: Martin Scorsese, David Hockney, Youssou N Dour, Anish Kapoor, Ohad Naharin, Sting, Jessye Norman, Mira Nair, Pinchas Zukerman, John Baldessari, Brian Sewell, Magdi Yacoub, Toni Morrison and many more.
In 2014 his acclaimed documentary, “The Enigma of Nic Jones” for BBC 4 won “Best Documentary” at the Canadian International Film festival. 2017 saw Michael and the team at Proudfoot complete their first documentary feature film, “Which Way Up” about the abstract expressionist painter, John McLean.
