I was born in Brooklyn, NY, the product of a marriage between a hot-blooded Haitian mother and a Liberian father. As a latchkey kid of the 80s and 90s, I consumed a lot of television and was inspired early to pursue a career in film and television.
I’ve won multiple awards for poetry and prose. I’ve been published in local papers, as well as high school and college anthologies.
In 2005 I optioned my first film, ONCE UPON A WEDDING, to Foxboro Productions. In 2009, I went on to option BUTTERFLY, to Sidney Kimmel Productions. In 2019, I was a winner in the Writers Lab Screenwriting Competition and in 2020, I was a semifinalist in the CineStory TV Fellowship Contest. Later that same year I debuted my sketch show MIATTA’S FESTIVAL SHOW on both YouTube and TikTok. And in 2022, I launched my production company, II of Cups Productions.
As a writer who grew up watching The Twighlight Zone, Star Trek and The Outer Limits, I’m still disheartened by the lack of leads of color in science fiction and fantasy television and films. So, II Of Cups Productions, our goal is to create high quality films with complex Black characters. We plan to develop Black stories that are not centered on Black trauma, but instead on genre bending premises.
