Mia Yu is an art historian, curator and artist-filmmaker based in Beijing and Paris. Her research-based practice examines the complex relationship between post-extractive nature, infrastructure, eco-poetics and geopolitics in the Asian context. Based on extensive field research, her creative works often weave history, folklore, cosmology, poetry and performance in constructing speculative mythology to evoke questions on extraction. Her films have been screened and exhibited at Centre Pompidou, Photografiska, Goethe Institut, Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg, Times Museum Berlin, Villa Vassilieff, CAFA Art Museum, Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg, Harvard University and Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival. As a curator, Mia Yu has curated projects at Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden, OCAT, Times Museum Berlin, Les Rencontres d'Arles, Goethe Institut, Tang Contemporary Art, ProHelvetia and Inside-Out Art Museum. Mia Yu has lectured about her research at Harvard University, University College of London, Cornell University, University of Toronto, Peking University, The Courtauld Institute of Art and Goldsmiths. Her writings have been published in ARTMargin, Afterall, Artforum, Art Review Oxford, LEAP and Art Monthly.
