Eligibility:
Open to all current school, college or university students (undergraduate or postgraduate) worldwide.
Films must be submitted by individuals or teams where at least one key creator (director, producer, or writer) is a student.
Proof of full time student status must be provided upon application. Caveat: If you are not a student but plan to undertake a film-making course please explain this in your application.
Film Requirements:
Minimum length: 5mins
Maximum length: 15 minutes (including credits).
All genres welcome (fiction, documentary, animation, experimental, etc).
Must be completed within the past 12 months before the submission deadline.
Non-English films must include English subtitles.
Submission Details:
Submit via FilmFreeway before the stated deadlines.
Only one entry per filmmaker/team.
Submit a high-quality digital file (MP4, MOV, etc.); no physical submissions accepted.
Provide a brief synopsis (max 200 words), filmmaker bio, and student ID or proof of enrolment (also see caveat in above Eligibility section).
Judging Criteria:
Films will be judged by MetFlicks and guest Industry judges. No comments or reasons for not making the shortlists will be provided due to volume.
Judging will focus on:
Originality and creativity
Storytelling and structure
Technical execution (cinematography, editing, sound)
Emotional, social or intellectual impact
Categories and Awards:
Best Overall Short Film
Best Short Documentary
Best Director
Best Genre Led Short Film
Best AI Driven Short Film
Awards and prizes will be awarded at the MetFlicks Film Fest 2025 on 27th November
Rights and Permissions:
Filmmakers retain all rights but grant MetFlicks permission to screen the film at the festival and use stills or clips (max 30 seconds) for promotional purposes.
Applicants must ensure all necessary clearances (music, actors, etc.) are secured.
Other Terms:
The organisers reserve the right to disqualify films that promote hate speech, violence, or discrimination.
Decisions of the judging panel are final.
By submitting, entrants agree to abide by all competition rules.
