Md Sabbir is a Bangladeshi documentary filmmaker, cinematographer, and award-winning photographer, born in Muktarampur, Brahmanbaria district, Bangladesh. He graduated from the Department of Photography at Osmania University, Hyderabad, India, and later completed his MA in Journalism and Mass Communication from EFLU, India, with a fully funded state scholarship.
He is a National Film Grant winner for his documentary project and a selected participant of several prestigious international programs, including the REAL Academy at the Locarno International Film Festival, Switzerland, the Ji.hlava Academy at the Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival, Czech Republic, and Documentary Fieldwork by the Liberation Doc Fest.
His micro-documentary has been officially selected at 13 film festivals across 9 countries and won an award at the Dhaka OIC Youth Capital Film Festival in 2020. He also participated in the prestigious FilmLab South Asia by Produire au Sud (PAS) at the Dharamshala International Film Festival.
Currently, he works as a freelance cinematographer and photographer. His recent work includes serving as an assistant cinematographer on films such as Chaya Marocher Bone, Since 1971, Durjatra, Kamalnama, and Shalbrikkha. These films are special Victory Day short films, and Gaibo Bijoyer Gaan is set to be released on Bioscope.com.
He has been selected as a delegate at the International Children’s Film Festival in Bangladesh twice. As a photographer, he has won more than 30 national and international awards, including the International Photography Awards (IPA), ND AWARD, Umbra International Photography Awards, and IUPA Awards. He has also participated in more than 60 photography exhibitions worldwide, including exhibitions at UNESCO and the United Nations headquarters. His photographs have been published in various national and international news and media outlets, including the UN website, The Daily Star (Bangladesh), Delano (Luxembourg), Daily Hive (Canada), and others.
