Since I was very young I’ve been creating art, taking freelance jobs
and gaining experience. I currently run Digital Duck studios, an indie
animation group creating 3D animated paleo-documentaries that
bring the prehistoric past back to life. My favorite part of the process
is just working with other people who come from various
backgrounds, who all have their own unique knowledge and skills
they can contribute. The social aspect of art is always my favorite,
whether it be working with people and sharing ideas, or making an
audience laugh.
My goal as a filmmaker and artist is to create what I would personally love to
watch, but haven’t seen before. Imagining I'm the audience, what
would I be interested in? If it’s comedic, I want to make sure I can
make myself laugh, if I pretend I didn’t make it. This helps me create
something that hopefully anyone can enjoy, but still appeals to
specific sensibilities.
I was highly influenced by films like Finding Nemo, which creates its
beautiful underwater world and bases elements of its story on real
science, which gives authenticity to the film. Another huge influence
were realistic CG dinosaur documentaries as well as films like
Jurassic Park, which use the medium to bring life to the far past like
no other, doing something only possible with animation. Additionally,
I’m a big fan of witty and visual comedy, with animated influences
including The Simpsons, Wallace and Gromit, and many more as well
as live-action sitcoms.
