Matthieu Tondeur was born in Lens, a mining town in Northern France. In 2004, he relocated to Paris where he created visual projects in the underground music scene . He later graduated from Creapole University with a Masters in Art & Visual communication.

After developing an interest in Chinese culture, Tondeur moved to Shanghai, China, spending 13 years there working in the music and art scenes under the name Chromaphase. There, he gained a reputation for his distinct style and attended invitations to perform in Hong Kong, Hangzhou and Zhongshan. These projects ranged from photography to sculpture as well as visual live performances.

Often working in factories, Matthieu began to develop his craft as a filmmaker and in 2015 he shot his first short called, “3 Men.” From there, he continued working with his international crew, producing and directing several short films in English and Chinese. His most recent short was the Sci Fi cyberpunk thriller, “Sheep” which was shot on super16 with vintage cameras and processed by hand with his team.

Matthieu takes his inspiration from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s horror Sci fi movies and directors such as John Carpenter, Paul Vanderhoven and John McTiernan. His love for films also gave him a passion for writing and developing feature length screenplays.

Drawing from his visual artist roots, Matthieu pays particular attention to details concerning production design and cinematography, often collaborating with other filmmakers on their projects.

His first feature film, “The Cleaners” was produced in 2021 and is currently in post-production.
