Matt Eskey grew up outside of Washington, DC, in Bethesda, MD. After graduating from Indiana University in 1987, he moved to Austin, TX. In 1993, he joined Mojo Nixon and The Toadliquors as bassist. In 1995 he started Americana record label Freedom Records. He currently works as a musician and graphic designer.
