Born in Bombay in 1986, adopted having grown up in France, Marie Sushila studied the Law and international relations, and left to complete her studies in India, before returning to Paris to become an international researcher in sociology.
Her desire for a film stems from a question intimately linked to her personal history: how do you build your identity when you have an Indian cultural heritage (of which she herself was deprived), and at the same time were born and raised in France?
Her first short documentary, Vinola sets the tone, produced at the Ateliers Varan in Paris in 2022, attempts to shed light, through the history of Vinola, on the tensions and questions faced by young women belonging to the Tamil community of France.
