Maria Cominis is a first generation Greek American artist, author, and educator creating work in Los Angeles, Orange County, and New York City. Based in Los Angeles, she recently served as a juror for the Los Angeles Greek Film Festival at the historic Egyptian Theatre and was honored as one of Gladys Magazine’s 100 Success Stories of 2023.
Maria spent a decade in New York City as an actor and teaching artist at the renowned HB Studio. A versatile creative, she is an accomplished theatre and television actor, a published author, and an award recognized playwright. Her play Women of Zalongo received a National Endowment for the Arts Grant (’22) and was a semi finalist for both the Eugene O’Neill National Playwrights Conference (’22) and the Bay Area Playwrights Festival (’20). The work has since been adapted into her screenplay The Cliff, an official selection of the WRPN Women’s International Screenplay Competition and a Page Turner Screenplays quarterfinalist.
Her television credits include Hacks, New Girl, Desperate Housewives, All My Children, and One Life to Live. Theatre roles include Bernarda Alba, The Diviners, The Seagull, and Ivanov. As an author, she has been published by Routledge, Kendall Hunt, and Smith & Krauss Publishing.
Maria is a Professor of Acting at California State University, Fullerton, where she also serves as the Area Coordinator for the BFA Acting Program. Known for her collaborative spirit and bold creative voice, she brings her passion for storytelling, community, and feminist ideals to every project she undertakes.
