Makrand Joshi is an award-winning Indian animation filmmaker with over two
decades of experience in feature films, television, and short-format storytelling.
He served as Animation Director for the animated feature film Krishna aur Kans, a
co-production of ISKCON and Reliance Entertainment (Released: 3 August 2012).
His earlier feature The Legend of Buddha, where he worked as Animation
Director, was selected as India’s official entry to the Academy Awards (Oscars)
2005 in the Animation category.
He was a Film Selection Committee Member at the Film Festival (CIFF) 2025.
He was invited as a Selection Committee Member at the Mumbai International
Film Festival (2012 & 2024), evaluating animation, fiction, and documentary films.
As Art Director, he contributed to the Japanese animated television series Ninja
Hattori. His short film The Load won the Best Jury Award at the South East Asia
Film Festival and at the Mumbai International Film Festival.
His animation short Lost Home received awards at the Mumbai International Film
Festival (2010) and the Vasundhara Film Festival (2008, Pune), earning
international critical appreciation.
He has collaborated with renowned filmmaker Shekhar Kapur during the making
of the DVD for the feature film BUDDHA.
A pioneer in animation education, he co-founded AAG (Academy of Animation &
Gaming), Delhi, and has developed animation programs for leading institutions.
Currently, he serves as Creative Director at Singapore-based ed-tech company
Creative Galileo.
