2025 Maggie Allesee Choreography Competition

We have two categories: Live Performance and Screendance.
The live performance and screendance showing will take place November 21st at Oakland Dance Festival.

All applicants must submit an application online by Friday, October 3rd, 2025.

Finalists will be chosen from each category, and one winner will be chosen among the finalists.

1st Place Live: $1000
1st Place Screendance: $500

The Maggie Allesse Choreography Competition is supported by the Strum Allesee Family Foundation.

Rules & Terms

-Both applicant/choreographer and all performers must be 18 years or older.
-Applicant/choreographer must be a Michigan resident.
-Dances will be judged on innovation, excellence in choreography, and performance quality.
-All genres of dance are accepted.
-Live submissions may be a maximum of approx. six minutes.
-Screendance submissions may be a maximum of five minutes.
-Works previously performed within the last three years for adjudication in the gala concert are not eligible.
- Previous MDC Maggie Allesee Choreography Award winning dances are not eligible.
-Incomplete applications will not be considered.
-Judges’ decisions will be final.
-For adjudication purposes, any and all credits or narratives that would identify choreographer, company/school/studio name, or performers within the recorded footage must be excluded.
