MONSTRA | Lisbon Animation Festival is an event whose main goal is to
present and promote the best animated films from around the world.

The festival is also a place where animation meets other media and arts, fostering experimentation and discussion of new ideas, artistic approaches, and forms, where the animated film becomes the essence of narrative and aesthetic expression.

We wait for the submission of your film in our competitive sections: Feature Films, Short Films, Long Short films, Student Short Films, Super-Short Films, Short Films for Children and Youth (MONSTRINHA) and Portuguese Short Films (Portuguese Competition | Vasco Granja).

Between 11 and 21 March 2027, the festival celebrates its 27th anniversary and will be back with its competitions, retrospectives, curated screenings, world and Portuguese premieres, exhibitions, masterclasses, workshops, talks and a special focus on a guest country: in this edition, Greece and Cyprus.

Submissions for International Competitions will be running until October 11, 2026. Filmmakers with selected films will be notified via email until the end of February 2027.

Submissions for the Portuguese Competition are running until December 13, 2026.

  • Thank you so much for screening Cell Buddies at your festival! We are honored to be part of your program. It’s been an incredible year for this student film, traveling to over 40 countries. We’ve seen that audiences worldwide really connect with the story, and we hope your audience enjoyed the screening as much as we enjoyed being part of your event. Thanks for supporting independent stop motion animation.
