MONSTRA | Lisbon Animation Festival is an event where animated films meet other media and arts, aiming to present, disseminate, experiment and discuss ideas, crossing over new artistic approaches and forms, on which animated film is the narrative and aesthetic expression. The Festival’s main goal is to present and promote the best animated films made all over the World.

MONSTRA 2023 is going to take place between 15th - 26th March 2023.

Each edition we focus on a guest country with retrospectives and curatorships of several authors on a guest country. This edition our guest country is Japan.

Our competitive sections are: Feature Films, Short Films, Student Short Films, Super Short Films, Short Films for Children and Youth (MONSTRINHA), Portuguese Short Films and Encontrão (workshop films).

Submissions for the Short Films for Children and Youth (MONSTRINHA) and International Competitions are running until 16th October 2022.

Submissions for the Portuguese Competition are running until January 9th 2023.

Filmmakers with selected films for the International Competition will be notified via e-mail after February 1st 2023

    Sadly I was not able to be on site (Monstra 2022), but I appreciated the festvial communication pretty much. Not only because my own film "In his Mercy" was a part of the student competition I think the annual selection of films and the additional program alone makes it a great festvial.
