MJ Sousa is a Portuguese filmmaker, born in Porto and currently living in São Miguel Azores. From an early age, she understood that the arts are the best form of expression. She enjoy doing theater, music and dance since she had 3 years old. Went to university to study psychology in order to complement her curiosity about human and social behavior. There's when she understood the power of cinema as an intervention tool and went to film school ( Madrid ). She fell in love with the art of editing and starts working mostly in it since 2012. Recently starts working too as artistic manager of the Cultural Association SIMBOLO SIMBOLICO which have the focus on social intervention through arts. As a film Director, her work is a poetic relationship between psychology and cinema with a focus on sensations and rhythms. Among other films, video music and promotional videos, she directed two award winners films " Panorama " ( 2021) and " Cócegas na Terra " ( 2023 ). Now she is finishing " Sabrina " ( 2025 ) and producing " Carta às minhas irmãs. " ( 2026 ) As a film director her goal is to get always inspired by simple things, share it with people in order that they could feel and discuss about a topic. Make films that are a source of reactions and intervention.
