Lucas Neagu (born May 26, 2000, in Timișoara, Romania) is a Romanian film director, screenwriter, and producer, and the founder of the independent production company Blue Youth Films. Entirely self-taught, Neagu has quickly gained attention for his emotionally charged, visually expressive filmmaking rooted in personal and social themes.
His debut feature, Timing (2024), explores mental health, trauma, and generational anxiety through the lens of Romanian Gen Z. The film received the Jury Prize at the Girona Film Festival and earned Neagu a Best Newcomer nomination at the 2025 Gopo Awards. It also won recognition at several international festivals, including one in Madrid.
Before Timing, Neagu directed multiple short films which helped define his style: intimate, lyrical, and emotionally raw.
In 2025, at age 25, Neagu is preparing his second feature, Nothing More and Nothing Different, starring acclaimed Romanian actors Ana Ciontea and Marian Râlea. The film will chronicle an old-age life story spanning five decades.
Neagu is increasingly recognized as one of the most compelling young voices in Romanian independent cinema, telling honest, character-driven stories with striking emotional depth.
