Lorena Colmenares is a New York-based filmmaker from Venezuela who graduated from Los Andes University. With strong dark humor, Lorena has developed different stories with peculiar perspectives that are always in the pursuit of the spectator’s emotion and reflection.
In 2015, her short film “Death Forest” won the first prize in the first edition of the International Festival Premio Giulio Questi (Rome, Italy), as well as several prizes and Official Selections in national and international festivals.
In 2017, her second short film “Nine Knots” premiered in the 41st edition of the Montréal World Film Festival (Montreal, Canada), where it earned a Special Mention in the Student Category. In 2018, the same short film was selected in the 40 th edition of the Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival, won the prize for Best Short Film in the 24 th edition of the Film Festival Della Lessinia (Verona, Italy), and numerous other international festival recognitions.
During her internships, she worked with Whiskey Films as an assistant editor in the commercial “La Policia Invisible,” which won a 2016 Gold Lion (Outdoor group) at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.
Her third short film "The Red Spiral”, will be premiering in the 42th edition of Cairo International Film Festival this year.
