Lochi Shaun Kalu is a film maker from Lagos, Nigeria. In 2018, he released his first project; I bring what I love, a short film which he produced, edited and scored. The film is an ode to the African woman.
In 2019, after taking a hiatus following his father’s death, he wrote and directed a music film; AYE featuring Nigerian singer; Olu. Aye became a visceral representation of Lochi’s mind and journey up until then, giving viewers language to their pain and a catalyst for their healing.
In 2020, a BBC documentary was released exposing sexual abuse on young women by lecturers in the University of Lagos, Nigeria. For Lochi’s next project, he wrote and directed a music video film titled ‘Corner’. The film was influenced by the documentary with Nigerian music artiste; Lady Donli as the muse. Corner was regarded as the most impactful music video of 2020 in Nigeria.
Despite having very minimal social media presence, Lochi still strives to put out impactful and thought-provoking work. His latest film; FLES, is slated for a 2023 release. The film is an experimental short about mindfulness. He wrote, directed and also scored the film. Lochi also recorded two original songs for the project.
