The Lived Perspectives film festival 2024 was a brilliant event. The organisers are clearly dedicated and truly passionate about film and about providing a space for films and filmmakers dealing with disability and neurodivergence. For everyone who submitted films, it was clear that the organisers spent countless hours scrutinising the submissions to put together a programme of high-calibre and deeply meaningful films. Not all film fests are created equal and lived perspectives is a festival where, as a creative, you can be sure that your work will be watched and considered equally amongst any other. The event space was perfect, providing room for attendees to network and explore some of the very pretty sights at the university of Winchester, food and drink were provided throughout the night, and of course the awards were beautiful and bespoke. It’s hard to fault a fledgling film festival of such a high quality and it’s obvious that the organisers and everyone who helped out are deeply dedicated to creating something unique and special in the film festival space. Bravo!

I entered my film into lived perspectives and was honoured to have been selected to a festival that celebrates disabled voices and expression. I’d love to see this festival expand and continue its journey in creating a safe space for those who need it.

Lived Perspectives is everything you want from a festival.

Ian and Jess provided excellent and personal communication throughout the selection process, and they have the utmost respect for filmmakers. They made a beautiful selection of films, deeply thought through, and provided avenues for filmmaker networking even after the festival had finished.

This is how you build a community.

    Highly recommended.

I am a director from China. I engage in art creation related to mental health in my spare time. When I first saw Lived Perspectives, I felt it was very unique. Its temperament made me feel very familiar and reliable, and I could sense its solidarity with people with mental health issues. Every email communication we had was very friendly, and I am happy to read sincere evaluations and feedback on my film in the newsletter, especially since many film festivals opt for mass emailings.

My film is not a "refined" one; in fact, its audio-visual language is very direct and rough. However, it is still recognized and encouraged by audiences, which reflects the inclusivity and diversity of aesthetic standards of this film festival.

For creators who genuinely wish to engage in cutting-edge practices related to mental health, disabilities, minority groups, and art, this is a fantastic film festival. I hope to participate in offline screenings.

I also sincerely hope that this film festival can continue to be held sustainably in the long term.
