Laura Albritton was awarded a 2023 regional Emmy for her work as the writer on the feature-length documentary The Florida Keys: 200 Years of Paradise (2023), produced by South Florida Public Television. The film has aired on 249 public television stations. She also gained a Suncoast EMMY director nomination for her trailer, Young Fires: The Future of Firelighting. Her short documentary Longleaf Forever, created with filmmaking partner Zickie Allgrove, explores one of the most biologically diverse ecosystems on the planet. Longleaf Forever won the award for Best North America Short at the Wildlife Conservation Film Festival (2024). Recent projects include short films A Tortoise Called Pumpkin Spice and Devouring Beauties: The Remarkable Pitcherplants. Laura directed, wrote, and edited a short film about the threatened Eastern Indigo snake, Introducing the Indigo, made with assistance from the Georgia Dept of Natural Resources' Wildlife Division, The Longleaf Alliance, and The Environmental Resources Network (TERN). Her first documentary, Adventures in History, was screened at regional film festivals. Laura is the author of award-winning short stories and five books on regional history and travel. She works remotely for the University of Miami's Writing Studies department. Before attending graduate school, she worked for Vanguard Documentaries and distinguished Black film producer Charles Hobson in Manhattan.
