Kwetu International Animation Film Festival (KIAFF) 3rd Edition will run from 28th to 30th April, 2023 with the Theme "Be Curious to Change/Dadisi Utatue". KIAFF will provide a large-scale setting for presenting the beautiful works of world animated films with special focus on East African Animation films. KIAFF will be a 3 days festival that will showcase quality animation films from around the world. The Festival will be set in Dar es Salaam, a commercial city of Tanzania.
The Kwetu International Animation Film Festival will revive the history of Animation Cinema in East Africa. This festival is created for the public to socialize and also developed into a place of intercultural exchange and a platform for the critical animated cinematic exploration of social and development issues.
KIAFF will bring the big stars of international cinema to Dar es Salaam and it will discover and develop new talents to Africa and the global. KIAFF will accompany animation filmmakers on their path into the spotlight and support their careers, visions, projects, dreams and works.
KIAFF is the new HUB for animation cinema in East Africa.

The festival’s center piece will be its competition sections for only one genre (animation): –
1. Feature films (from 45min)
2. Short films (5sec to 40min)
3. Made in Africa ( Films made by African in Africa)
Winners of each category will be determined by international juries, who will award the TEMBO Award to the winners. There will be other three special awards for Best Animated Commercial Ad, Special Jury Mention and Audience Award.

The non-competition sections will feature the works of established filmmakers, notable films of various national cinemas, animated films that have made their mark in film history.

Submissions must be for the films produced in 2021, 2022 and no later than February 2023. KIAFF will also accept rough cut but the film must be finalized before Feb 20th, 2023. The competition is primarily oriented towards all animation filmmakers new and old from all over the world but with more focus on Africa.
