Kinematora is an exciting new film festival that debuted in the summer of 2024, bringing a fresh and inclusive perspective to the film industry. With a strong focus on diversity and accessibility, Kinematora aims to create a welcoming environment that opens doors for emerging filmmakers and celebrates creative talent from around the world.

Based in Växjö, Sweden, the festival is proudly partnered with two non-profit organizations: Öppna Kanalen Kronoberg and Globala Kronoberg, both affiliated with the European Solidarity Corps (ESC). The festival is entirely operated by international ESC volunteers, embodying its commitment to community and cultural exchange.

Kinematora’s mission is simple:

Promote films from all over the world.
Provide a safe and inclusive space for filmmakers and audiences alike.
Offer a platform for up-and-coming directors to showcase their work.
The festival accepts submissions from all countries and genres, embracing both live-action and animation.

Partner Organizations:
Öppna Kanalen Kronoberg (ÖKK) is a non-profit, open-channel TV station dedicated to promoting freedom of expression. Their mission is to ensure that every voice is heard while offering employment and job training opportunities for individuals who face barriers in the labor market, including the long-term unemployed.

Globala Kronoberg is an international center for youth, working primarily with ERASMUS+ and the European Solidarity Corps. Their goal is to provide mobility opportunities for young people, youth workers, and organizations, promoting cultural diversity and encouraging participation in international programs.

Through its partnerships and international volunteer network, Kinematora is creating a global platform for filmmakers while making TV broadcasts and events accessible to all, helping foster an inclusive film community in Växjö, Sweden.

Q: How is Kinematora different from other film festivals?
A: Kinematora is an ESC project. Basically our film festival is a non-profit event supported by international volunteers.

Q: Why is there a submission fee?
A: The $5 fee is a symbolic sum to cover the expenses of the festival and avoid spam submissions.

Q: I am interested in volunteering. Is it possible to be a part of this film festival?
A: If you are living in or near Växjö, Sweden we will welcome you with open arms.

Q: Does the film festival have an entrance fee?
A: No. The Kinematora Film Festival is free for everyone who wishes to attend. Food and drinks will also be provided.

Kinematora has two award categories:

1. Live Action
2. Animation

One winner will be selected from each category. The winners will receive:
- A feature on both Öppna Kanalen Kronoberg and Globala Kronoberg channels.
- An Official Statement in print from the jury.
- The official Kinematora Film Festival Physical Trophy.

This recognition offers a fantastic opportunity for filmmakers to showcase their work on prominent platforms and receive acknowledgment from industry professionals.

All nominations will be offered to be screened on regional TV in Kronoberg, Sweden.

By submitting your film to the Kinematora Film Festival, you agree to the following guidelines. Please review these terms carefully, and reach out with any questions via the email above.

Eligibility and Submission Guidelines

Accepted Genres: The festival accepts fiction short films and animations only.
Runtime Limit: Submissions must not exceed 15 minutes.

Subtitles: Films with dialogue or commentary in languages other than English must include hardcoded English subtitles or an SRT file in English. Submissions lacking English subtitles will not be considered.

Format Requirements: Digital submissions only in MP4, MOV, or AVI formats. Submissions in other formats will be disqualified. Filmmakers are responsible for ensuring their files meet these specifications.

Eligibility Window: Films must have been produced between 2023 and 2025 to qualify.

Single Submission: Each film can be submitted only once. Please carefully review your work before submission, as revisions are not accepted.

Permissions and Rights

Media Usage: By submitting, you authorize the festival and its affiliates to use and distribute the film’s poster, trailer, synopsis, and stills in both digital and printed media for promotional purposes. If selected or nominated you authorize the festival by default to screen your film as part of the festival program.

Copyright: Filmmakers confirm that all necessary intellectual property rights are secured and that their work does not infringe on any copyright laws.

Broadcasting Option: All selected films will be considered for optional broadcasting on a Swedish TV channel for a minimum of six months. *Participation is voluntary, and filmmakers will be consulted before their work is considered for broadcasting. **This option does NOT cede the rights to your film.

Fees, Deadlines, and Logistics

Submission Fees: All fees are non-refundable.

Deadline Adherence: Submissions must be received by the designated deadline. The festival cannot accept late entries under any circumstances.

Travel and Accommodations: The festival does not cover costs related to travel, lodging, or other associated expenses for guests and attendees. However, organizers are available to provide recommendations and guidance regarding local accommodation, transportation, and other logistical matters.

Festival Discretion

The Kinematora Film Festival reserves the right to disqualify any submission at its discretion, without prior notice, in cases of rule violations or breaches of ethical and/or legal standards. Filmmakers acknowledge the festival’s authority in these matters, and such decisions are final.

Jury Panel

The jury will be chaired by representatives from ÖKK and Globala Kronoberg, with one additional external partner, depending on their availability.
