All my life, I’ve been a storyteller. As a young boy with my first cassette tape recorder, I was busy making up and recording stories involving fearless and funny characters. Later, this experience served me in good stead when I decided to pursue an acting career. As a professional, I was privileged to work on stage and screen with such notable talents as Brian Dennehy, Efrem Zimbalist Jr., Burt Reynolds, Carrol O’Connor, Matt Damon, and many more.
In the meantime, my wife Gloria and I were busy raising two daughters and getting involved in our local community and it was here that she helped set the standard for us to follow: just because a person has a disability, it shouldn’t prevent you from accomplishing anything you set your mind to. Her example and unwavering support have encouraged me to become a father, an actor, run for Pennsylvania State Representative, sail the South Pacific, and now, a writer.
Recently, I completed an original screenplay based on a true-life character called Brem & Me. It’s about an unlikely relationship between a fatherless boy and a half-crazed, champagne-swilling recluse with a dark past. Together, they not only save a town but each other.
I’ve also published an anthology of true short stories entitled Catholics, Kahlua, and the KKK- a literary fruitcake. It’s about growing up with a communist grandfather who got along better with dogs and bees than he did with people, a great aunt who stood up to the KKK, and my sweetheart of a grandmother who had a reputation for jumping into the front seat of unsuspecting motorists to bum a ride. These are just a few examples of the often humorous, sometimes poignant, true stories you’ll find in this anthology.
Currently, I’m writing a historical screenplay on the heroes of the early American navy as well as continuing to add biographical stories to my anthology. The most recent is about how my brother and I got the idea of using one of our father’s condoms to make the world’s biggest water balloon. It’s called Where the Rubber Met the Road.
