Kamel Azouz is a director, screenwriter, photographer, film critic and cultural journalist of Algerian origin, born in Algiers and living in Paris since 1999.
He holds a DEA and a Master's degree in Political Science (University of Paris VIII), as well as a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and International Relations (Institute of Political Studies of Algiers).
A journalist by profession, Kamel Azouz began his career in the press at the beginning of the 1990s in Algiers (at the height of the black decade), at Radio Alger Chaîne 3 (the French-speaking national radio station of Algerian Radio). He specialised in the field of cinema and, for several years, he hosted and produced various radio programmes on the 7th Art (Imagique, Étoiles, Le Journal du Cinéma, Ciné-Jeunes...). He covered a large number of film festivals around the world, where he has worked with various emblematic figures of the 7th Art (directors, actors, critics, technicians, producers, programmers and festival directors). At the same time, Kamel Azouz collaborates with different press titles: radio, TV, written press and online press, mainly in France and Algeria.
In Algiers during the 1990s, he was a regular visitor to the Algerian Cinematheque, directed at that time by the charismatic Boudjemaa Karreche.
In 1999, Kamel Azouz moved to France for a post-graduate degree in Political Science. At the same time, he studied photography in Paris, with photographers Marco Vermer and Bruno Dubreuil, and then took courses in screenwriting with scriptwriter Denis Tison. Moreover, he joined various film creation workshops, in which he studied the history of cinema, the theory and practice of fiction and documentary film making for five years.
In 2022, Kamel Azouz will direct his first feature film "L'Olivier Sauvage" (The Wild Olive Tree), an independent and self-produced documentary film of 86 minutes, developed within the Parisian workshops : Réalisation film documentaire, led by frensh director Francis Brou, and the Espace Jemappes' Écriture et creation filmique, led by italian director and producer Marina Galimberti.
