Josiah grew up in the foothills of Tahoe National Forest. In highschool he was gifted a DV Sony camera, opting to make extra credit videos for class to get a passing grade. He skipped college to tour in bands, leaving behind any notions of filmmaking as a career.
Through his twenties he spent time in a cult, worked on various music projects and worked in grocery stores. In 2018, at age 29, he decided he wanted to be a director. His family and girlfriend at the time were not thrilled. He sold all his music and recording gear to fund a short film. He sent the film to a local digital agency to try and get a job as a videographer. When offered an interview, he panicked. He hadn’t edited the short film.
Borrowing his friend's Adobe login, he assembled footage he quickly filmed and spent a weekend learning Premiere Pro to build confidence for the interview.
He landed the job making $20/hr editing and shooting social media content for local businesses.
During this time his film school was youtube and websites like “Film Riot” and “NoFilmSchool.” For the next 5 years he made scrappy no budget films, each one with a specific aim to teach him something about the craft.
With the infatuation stage of the technical craft fading, he shifted into focusing on “story.”
In 2022 he moved to Los Angeles utilizing a shaky gig as an assistant story producer on an indie doc to make ends meet. During this time he co-wrote the script for Very Prosperous Men with his childhood friend Josh Oakley.
He is currently in development on the feature and series attached to the short film as well as several other projects.
