Josh Gerritsen is a creative and meticulous filmmaker with a background in photography covering 16 years. Proficient at striking interview setups and establishing friendly rapport with interview subjects spanning the political spectrum. FAA certified drone operator. Josh is experienced in every aspect of film production including directing, producing, shooting, lighting, sound recording, editing, color grading, and mastering. His primary focus is cinematography.
He has directed two feature films: Island Zero and Magnificent Beast.
Josh is based in Rockport, Maine. He grew up in Maine and like most young people, couldn’t wait to move away as fast as possible. After four years at Skidmore College, he moved to New York City to work as a photographer. His plan was to live in NYC forever, but reading “An Omnivore’s Dilemma” by Michael Pollan changed his trajectory. He came to his senses and moved back to Maine, the best place in the world.
He ran a small farm and raised heritage cows, sheep, pigs, and chickens. He came to his senses again and realized that farming is not his calling, it’s filmmaking.
He has a passion for sustainability, passive house design, energy retrofits, and electric cars. Other passions include rowing on the ocean with his home-built sliding seat rowboat.
