After being introduced to the films of Scorsese, Kubrick, Lynch, and Tarantino as a (probably way too young) child, I developed a passionate and undying obsession with moving pictures. Filmmakers were like great magicians to me and I became enthralled by the idea of learning their tricks. I voraciously consumed behind the scenes documentaries, director's commentaries, interviews and VFX breakdowns of my favourite films, which only deepened my fascination and appreciation of this wonderful art form.
Around the age of 14, my friends and I spent our summer months in cornfields shooting little movies, often including a character wielding a toy gun – because we were children, of course. This led to producing short films and music videos in A-Level Media, which progressed to a BA Honours Degree in Film & TV Studies at the University of Nottingham.
Since graduating ten years ago, I founded a production company called One Door Films and have produced numerous short films with locally sourced performers and crew. Most notably, I produced “Cosmo”, a short comedy about a neighbourly feud over a defecting cat, which picked up “Best Short Comedy”, “Best Cinematography” and “Best Short Film” awards on the international film festival circuit. The film was selected for the BIFA Qualifying Beeston Film Festival. Notable festivals I have had my work screened at include the Tokyo International Short Film Festival, the Derby Film Festival, the Mansfield Town Film Festival and the Boundless Film Festival in London.
My films often explores relatable subject matter through a lens of dark comedy. I’m interested by narratives that delve into the absurd, but are underpinned by characters and situations that audiences can relate to.
