I was born in Romania, in the 1990s. The first 14 years of my life were about the hot summers and spending hours biking through my huge city, Bucharest, playing soccer, drinking soda, and eating ice cream. The winters, springs, and autumns were all about waiting for summer.
Much like Martin Scorsese, I wanted to be a priest. I attended the Orthodox Seminary for four years. In fact, I had always wanted to be a writer - and for a short period, a priest-writer - but by the end of 12th grade (senior high), I knew I wanted to MAKE MOVIES. So I started telling people that I wanted to do theatre because it sounded more conservative and less insane. Eventually, I went on to get a degree in Classical Civilization (you know, Ancient Greek stuff) because that was even more conservative and even less insane. Now, Classical Civ is not the most miserable thing, it can even be fascinating and I did get to write a dissertation on Greek Tragedy I'm half-half-proud of. But in 2018 I eventually finally in the end at long last started doing FILM:
I mean watching 4-5 hundred movies a year, reading lots of books on screenwriting, directing, cinematography, film criticism… and most importantly, writing five feature screenplays and more than a dozen shorts.
I have written, directed, produced, and edited a 44-minute short film called Kamikaze, which I have submitted to a few festivals and I am awaiting results.
I also have another small short in postproduction.
Other than that, in 2022, I attended a 9-month-long Sunday filmmaking course in Bucharest and I had the chance - of all things - to ACT in four professionally produced shorts. Not a big deal, but quite an experience overall.
Ancient history: I did fencing before, during, and after college and I was pretty good before I broke a tendon and had to quit forever. I've also done a bit of competitive chess, but the level in that field is too insanely high to talk about being any good.
Oh, and I’m married and have two kids.
