A UIC graduate, Joe cut his teeth in the commercial animation business working as a traditional cel animator for Sinnott and Associates in Chicago, where he worked for 20 years. Storyboards, cel animation, animation camera, as well as character design soon became his tools of the trade. In 1987, Joe made the switch to computer graphics. A pioneer in computer-generated character animation, Joe was the first artist to create a digital Hamburger Helper Hand, a character formerly animated only as a tabletop stop-motion rig. His work on modeling and rigging the Pillsbury Doughboy is still being used by various studios to this day. Over the years, Joe has done motion graphics, post-production effects, stop-motion, clay animation, billboards, holographic displays, and even large-scale presentations displayed onstage behind rock groups Aerosmith and Incubus. In 2009, Joe hung out a shingle for his own company, Joe Doll Animation, where he has done sports graphics aired on ABC, NBC, CBS, Sprint mobile phones, DirecTV, Sports Illustrated, Pro Football Weekly and the Chicago Bulls. In 2013, Joe became the sole content creator for Chicago Projection Mapping to create heart-stopping large-scale events around the world.
