Joan has always taken risks and jumps in with both feet, hence, how her imagination and love for screenwriting and directing started. Whilst in a stagnant season in her life, she packed up her vehicle and drove from Calgary, Canada to Los Angeles, USA to attend a short but intense filmmaking program at New York Film Academy. After the program, she had stories to tell and began writing. She has stories based on her real life experiences and stories based on bits and pieces of other people's real-life experiences. Joan also has an entrepreneurial mind and passion for fashion, which led her to create a tall women's clothing line, Stand Tall Fashions. A friend told her, "If you can't find it, create it". So that's exactly what she has done. Joan just recently moved to Niagara Falls, Ontario, which has given her a fresh and beautiful insight to the beauty and opportunities that Canada has to offer. Joan believes in being fearless in the pursuit of what sets your soul on fire. She also says that it doesn't matter how many "no's" you get (she's not scared of no's), it's the one "yes" that counts. She encourages people and states that you are never too old to start a new venture in life. Dive right in for whatever that passion is, that is burning inside of you.
