It takes titanium and aluminium and steel and glass and lasers to do one thing, to impart feeling, that’s all we do, to strangers. We want to impart that feeling for everyone in the audience at the exact same time. That’s the magic of cinema.
Jim, a teacher of special needs education in Belfast, entered the Northern Irish film scene with quite an impact in 2014 when his debut short, Spots, picked up the Director’s award at the Film Devour Short Film Festival in Belfast. Multi-talented Jim is an associate producer and co-composer on the indie feature Braxton Butcher (dir. Leo McGuigan). In 2015 his second short, Photobomb, won the audience choice award at the Film Devour Short Film Festival and has received worldwide attention following screening at several international film festivals.
Jim has also seen success as a composer for other projects including Storyland Web Series Farr (2015), indie-short Peni’s From Heaven (2017), The Hangman (2018). Recently Jim has won several awards for his short film The Visitor and for his first funded short Upside which won the audience choice at Film Devour 31 and Best Short Film at the Colorado disABILITY film festival in 2020.
