Jihad Saade (b. 1989) is a Lebanese filmmaker who began his journey in cinema at Notre Dame University, graduating in 2012. Starting out in cinematography, he contributed to a range of projects, steadily developing his skills and artistic perspective.
His directorial debut—a graduation film—won Best Student Film at the Barcelona International Film Festival in 2012, marking an early milestone in his career. Since then, Saade has directed and co-directed numerous short films, documentaries, and multimedia campaigns.
A highlight of his career came in 2017, when he co-directed the short documentary Europa is Phoenician, which received the Audience Award at the Lebanese Film Festival in Canada. His 2023 short film, Not Far From Here, earned special jury mentions at both the REEF Festival in Lebanon and The Short Cinema in Leicester, England.
In 2024, Saade was the cinematographer for Diaries from Lebanon, a feature documentary by Myriam Hajj that premiered at the Berlinale. The following year, he co-directed his first feature documentary, Shapes of Normal Human Beings, with Salim Mrad. The film premiered at the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR), further establishing his presence in the international film community.
With over a decade of experience across various genres and formats, Jihad Saade continues to use cinema as a powerful medium to spark conversation and reflect on meaningful issues.
