Jesualdo Muvuma is a Multidisciplinary Artist (illustrator, filmmaker, screenwriter, animator), Designer, and Lawyer from Angola, born in Saurimo, Lunda-Sul Province, on January 28, 1996.
Currently based in Luanda, Jesualdo combines academic training, diverse professional experience, and a passion for creativity to make an impact across the fields he works in.
ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND:
Jesualdo holds a Law degree from the Catholic University of Angola (2015-2019) and has complemented his education with courses in Law, Art/Illustration, and Design. He began his career in the Marketing Department of the Angolan Football Federation, where he served as a Graphic Designer, Marketing Assistant, and Social Media Manager for nearly four years. Afterward, he pursued a legal internship and later joined the Marketing team at Africell Angola.
CREATIVE AND ARTSTIC CAREER:
In 2019, Jesualdo gained prominence by designing the sportswear (game and training kits) for the Angolan National Football Team, debuted at the African Cup of Nations (CAN) in Egypt. These designs were used until 2024, fulfilling a childhood dream.
In 2021, Jesualdo was one of the three winners of a contest organized by the National Bank of Angola to design a commemorative coin celebrating 20 years of peace, selected from over 240 national participants.
As a visual artist, he participated in major exhibitions, such as Untitled 3 – O Vendedor de Passado, organized by the international contemporary art gallery This Is Not A White Cube. He also showcased his work at the 20th-anniversary Festival of Luanda Cartoon, where he exhibited four pieces and served as a judge for the children’s drawing competition.
ANIMATED FILM:
Jesualdo has made significant contributions to animated cinema in Angola. He served as Art Director, Illustrator, and Storyboard Artist for the documentary Alerta Mangais, awarded "Social Cause of the Year" at Angola’s largest advertising festival, FestiPub 2024. This documentary was produced by Geração 80 for Total Energies and Otchiva, in collaboration with Kamba Animation.
He also directed and illustrated two animated films for the documentary Jisabu – Angolan Oral Tradition, produced by 9Films. The films, JISABU – NANGUELA and JISABU – UMBUNDU, won awards for Visual Effects and Animation at FestiPub 2024.
In 2024, Jesualdo wrote, illustrated, and produced his first animated short film, 50 Kwanzas. It premiered at Goethe-Institut Angola as part of its 15th-anniversary celebrations and was showcased at the 20th-anniversary Festival of Luanda Cartoon. Internationally, the short film was selected (unitl December 2024) for:
1. Paris International Animation Film Festival (PIAFF 2025) - Paris, France;
2. First-Time Filmmaker Sessions - hosted by Lift-Off Global Network - London, England;
3. Lift-Off Filmmaker Sessions - hosted by Lift-Off Global Network - London, England;
TEACHING AND TRAINING:
Jesualdo actively shares his knowledge through workshops and training sessions. In 2020, he hosted the first edition of the workshop "From Paper to Digital: Digital Painting Without a Tablet".
In 2024, he led two digital art workshops during the 15th-anniversary Festival of Goethe-Institut Angola.
COLLABORATINS:
Jesualdo has collaborated with public and private entities, as well as individual clients, including Angolan advertising agencies. Notably, he partnered with FRESAN, an initiative of the Angolan Government funded by the European Union, co-managed and co-financed by Camões, I.P. This collaboration reinforced Jesualdo’s role as an illustrator and filmmaker, focusing on themes like climate change, sustainable agriculture, and cultural preservation.
