A filmmaker born and raised in Portland, Oregon; Jessica Barr wrote and starred in Sophie Jones, a feature that premiered at the 2020 Deauville Film Festival. Sophie Jones screened at numerous other festivals before being acquired by Oscilloscope Laboratories and is now streaming on Showtime with an 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Barr is the recipient of the Future of Film is Female Grant for her script Mitzvah. Over the past year, she has produced four shorts and a feature which she starred in alongside Lindsay Burdge. Barr is currently a mentor at Women’s Wednesday and a director’s assistant on the Amazon hit series The Summer I Turned Pretty.
