"The creation of a flower if the labor of the ages." Milton
Greetings;
My name is Jeffrey George Moline, I am a sixty-five year old Queer identifying male. The story of my life begins on a small farm outside of Austin Minnesota and continues sixty-five years later in West Hollywood California with my husband and our now grown daughters. This story would include overcoming family trauma, discrimination typical of the time and surviving full blown AIDS - to triumph of building a life and creating a unique family of my own. It is also a creative story as it is my nature to use art to comment on my interesting life experiences. I am the writer, producer and performer of "Grandpa's Got The Pill."
The creation of a flower is the labour of the ages - Milton
Along with my husband Terrence Franklin and our colleague and friend Tangelia Rouse-Ringo we founded the Bending The Arc Collective. A group of LGBT, BI-POC and adults over fifty featuring actors, stand up comics, musicians and performers. We produce Variety style shows once a quarter focussing on the stories and voices of marginalized communities, along with music jams, stand up comedy and writing sessions within our community.
"Grandpa’s Got A New Pill" - our collective’s first film project, was directed by Jacob McCaslin and features a cast of LGBT seniors and allies. "Grandpa's Got A New Pill" is base on a true story.
I created the character of Awesome Lee Bodacious Queer Country Superstar in 2016 in response to the divisiveness in our society and as a way to blend the cultures that inform my life and expression, and also provoke laughter and conversation. These Awesome Lee Bodacious stories, songs and bits turn life tragedy into triumph, tears into laughter all with a touch of cheeky subversiveness.
Ageism is a pan cultural phenomena. In art elders are rarely masters of their own destiny. Grandpa’s Got A New Pill allows us to rethink the portrayals of old age replacing them with representations of how we (elders) actually see ourselves - vibrant, resilient people who survive and live with hope, who cultivate a life of happiness and meaning - a sexual community (as evident by the unprecedented rise of STDs in our senior populations) "Grandpa’s Got A New Pill" places these lives front and center in a playfully naughty, hand clapping, foot stomping, thought provoking manner.
Peace,
Jeffrey George Moline
