Jay Jiatong Zhao was born in Shenzhen China and started making films when he was 12 years old. He used to build up mini film crews with classmates in primary school and used mobile to film simple things.

After attending high school in Sydney, Jay gradually started his cinematic experience. He made 4 short films during high school and gained awards from school film festivals or highest band grade. He likes to explore different genres and types of time-based arts.

Jay then moved next to UNSW and studied undergraduate. He directs, writes and produces for his independent film and university projects, seeking auteur-director as his career goal. Jay completed his largest production ever 'Relove' in 2022 and 2023 after entering university, and began his more industrial filming career and part-time film work. Jay's films made in the university era have been selected in various film festivals and competitions.
