James Ross began his creative journey as a biomechanical sculpture artist. He was encouraged that the concepts from his sculptures could easily translate to film, which led him to write his first screenplay, Transcarlet. The screenplay went on to win the Fantastic Planet Screenplay Competition in Sydney, Australia, in 2017. It was also a two-time finalist at ScreenCraft in Los Angeles and a gold medal finalist at the Cannes Screenplay Contest in 2016.
James is currently in the final stages of a multi-year project, turning Transcarlet into a graphic novel. With the rise of AI, he has expanded his creative pursuits into filmmaking through his YouTube channel, AI Protopia, which has over 100,000 followers. AI Protopia produces AI-generated films, covers AI news, and creates music under AI Protopia Studios and AI Protopia Music. His second AI-generated short film, No Mercy for the Wicked, pays homage to the classic spaghetti westerns, following his first short film, Arctic, an environmental piece.
James is passionate about exploring the boundaries of creativity and sees AI as a powerful tool that democratizes filmmaking, allowing creators to bring their visions to life without traditional financial and industry barriers. He is excited to continue using AI to shape the future of storytelling.
