Samuel Clark Waugh Distinguished Professor of International Relations & Chair of the Department of History at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. I received my PhD from the University of Chicago in Intellectual History and grew up in Missoula, Montana.
As an author of several books, I have written extensively about colonialism and anticolonial national liberation movements. I am currently writing a trade book about global national liberation movements, which I plan to make in to a docuseries.
I have three feature films in development (filming underway): "The Peril of Dissent" and "Before September" and a movie about Covid-19. "The Peril of Dissent" tells the story of dissidents targeted by religious radicals and authoritarian states after 1989. "Before September" focuses on the terrorism and the law in the United States before 9/11. I'm co-writing the script for "Before September" with Susan Pahlke (JD), who is also collaborating as second camerawoman for both movies. I'm collaborating with composer Tom Larson on the the Covid-19 project.
In 2003, I was elected Senior Associate Member of St Antony's College, Oxford by St Antony's Fellows.
