James M. Freeman is an Emeritus Professor of Anthropology (San Jose State University, California). He studied screenplay writing for two years with Barak Goldman. Drawing on his decades of research and nonfiction writing about India and Vietnamese refugees, Freeman has written two narrative features and several short scripts, which have won more than thirty Best Script awards. He is an American Book Award winner for Hearts of Sorrow: Vietnamese-American Lives.
