I am interested in process. I am inherently a more expressive thinker/maker and I find that forcing different structures on my creative output leads to interesting results. Designing a rich new process is nearly as rewarding as making a final piece. Components of my processes are formal (Sketching, storyboarding, digital sculpting) but also emotional and personal, like exploring certain feelings, ie: playing with the tension between what is abject & bizarre and what is familiar. Other components in my process are more conceptual like examining an ideology, world view or ordering system. These conceptual strategies aren’t made obvious in the work itself, but I prefer it that way — the conceptual underpinning is meant to steer the mind in new and exciting directions, a welcome compass, navigating away from the gravitational pull of good taste or trends.
