Born the son of Colombian and Nicaraguan immigrants in New Orleans, Louisiana, JC Gutierrez began his acting career when he moved to Miami at 12 years old. After acting in over 30 plays, Gutierrez attained a BFA in Theatre Performance from Florida International University, making him a first-generation graduate and an award-winning student artist (Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival).
His theatre training and ability to communicate with actors allows him to extract powerful performances and tell a captivating story. He made his transition to directing film by surrounding himself with experienced cinematographers and collaborators. Together they have achieved critical acclaim in short films ('Til Death) and music videos (Adult Programming.) He is currently in post-production for his next short film in the horror genre.
Gutierrez’s work is influenced most notably by Ari Aster, Christopher Nolan, and Alejandro Iñarritu. Gutierrez continues to make films exploring the dark themes of human nature with a focus on how we cope with mortality.
