Jim Saunders is a New York City-based professional writer, playwright, optioned screenplay writer and multiple contest winner. He has many years’ experience writing stage presentations, corporate films and multimedia projects; also a director and occasional actor.

“BOSS TWEED” Tammany politician William M. “Boss” Tweed loots New York City’s treasury for millions until exposed by the upstart New York Times and immigrant cartoonist Thomas Nast. An historical political drama and biopic

“BULLY! (Teddy Roosevelt and the Panama Canal)” The outrageous political maneuvering surrounding the American acquisition of the Panama Canal territory in 1903. An historical political drama and biopic

“CHAMPION OF THE WORLD!” John L. Sullivan becomes Heavyweight Boxing Champion at age 23 and embarks on a legendary lifestyle that captures the spirit and envy of 19th Century America. An historical action, drama and biopic. Also a romance.

“EXPLOSION AT BLACK TOM!” Federal agents pursue German saboteurs planning an attack on the Black Tom Island Munition Depot in New York Harbor in 1916. An action, detective and historical/disaster drama. Also a love story!

“GENERAL GRANT IS DOOMED!” Ex-President Ulysses S. Grant relives his life as he struggles to complete his “Personal Memoirs” while being ravaged by terminal throat cancer. An epic historical drama and biopic.

“MADAM PRESIDENT” Edith Wilson, second wife of President Woodrow Wilson, initiates a mammoth White House cover-up of Wilson’s debilitating 1919 stroke. An historical political drama and biopic. Also a remarkable love story.

“RAGTIME WARRIOR” Band Leader James Reese Europe revolutionizes military band forever when he takes command of the “Harlem Hellfighters” military band in 1917. He and the band become war heroes. An historical action, biopic, ethnic drama w. music, and love story.

“THEATRE OF DEATH” In 1903 Chicago, a theater reporter exposes the “Absolutely Fireproof” Iroquois Theatre as a firetrap. But nobody listens. An action and historical/disaster drama (but with romance!)

“SIR HARRY LAUDER TONIGHT!” A dramatic but lively musical about the life and times of the legendary Scotch music hall entertainer. A contemporary musical drama and historical biopic.

Animated Short Film (Adult Animation)

“IN THE LOCKED UPPER ROOM” A dramatic Biblical depiction of the plight of the Apostles after the crucifixion of Jesus. An adult animation short film (31-page screenplay).

Stage Presentations

“TRIUMPH! BOJANGLES, EUBIE AND BERT” A stage musical depicting how three show business legends – Bill “Bojangles” Robinson, Eubie Blake and Bert Williams – overcame racism and theatrical bigotry to achieve immortal success. (Now available as a screenplay.)

“SIR HARRY LAUDER TONIGHT!” A sprightly stage musical about the life and career of the famed Scotch music hall entertainer. (Now available as a screenplay.)
