What is "homesteading?" The concept spans a wide variety of themes and activities. Many, if not most, homesteaders raise animals. The most common choices are chickens. Folks also raise ducks, geese, bees, goats, sheep, cows, dogs, cats, and various other critters. It all depends on how much space you have, what you want to achieve, and what you’re comfortable with. Urban and rural.

We're interested in showcasing creative work with themes to include homeschooling, gun safety and storage, traditional foods preparation, quilting and sewing, prepping, survivalism, alternative energy, self-sufficient off-grid living, animal husbandry, training, wound care, farming, gardening, growing cannabis & hemp, growing herbs, medicinal foods, organic practices, soil health, permaculture.

We're interested in these topics, too: how to build fences to contain critters and gardens. How to put together passive solar and solar panel solutions. How to organize your food and tools. How to use found materials and recycle. How to collect and process rainwater. How to use propane and wood stoves. How to discover water, manage running water and runoff, dig a well. Excavate. Bush hog. Make a pond. Keep your pond fish and plant life healthy and sustainable. How to use drills, chainsaws and hand tools. How to dispatch and butcher animals. You get the idea.

Thanks to our wonderful viewers, submitters, supporters, judges, and volunteers! All donations go toward supporting filmmakers, photographers, artists, musicians & writers. You rock!

Organizers live off-grid and are homesteading on the beautiful north Arkansas Ozark mountains. We are engaged in building sustainable structures, organic gardening, raising livestock and critters including goats, pigs, dogs, cats, ducks, chickens and guineas.

As our festival attracts local and international sponsorship, we hope to provide cash and other awards to talented activist creatives.
