International Animation Festival “Soleil” is the newest initiative of the well established International Francophone Festival “Soleil” that gradually became one of the most significant regional cultural events that reflects Bulgaria’s membership in the international Francophone movement.

The International Francophone Festival “Soleil” is annually held at the ancient seaside town of Sozopol, a commercial and cultural center on the Black Sea coast for more than 2700 years and one of the major seaside resorts in Bulgaria nowadays. The town’s history and traditions as well as the sandy beaches and sunny weather are reason enough for festival participants to feel at home here for 13 years now. The program of the festival covers all the iconic places in the unique old part of Sozopol. The opening traditionally marks the start of the summer tourist season.

The International Francophone Festival “Soleil” includes in its versatile program exhibitions, concerts, international plein-air painting workshop, film screenings, conferences and culinary presentations.

The newest part of the festival program is the International Animation Festival “Soleil”, which aims to put a special focus on the animation medium through various events, dedicated exclusively to the art of animation, coming from different places around the world.
The first edition of the International Animation Festival “Soleil” would consist of a competition program, curated screenings, animation workshop and accompanying events. It will take place between 4th and 6th of June 2025.
The International Animation Festival “Soleil” differs from other animation festivals being a THEMED event, revolving around a different topic each year.

The 2025 edition of the festival would be dedicated to the theme “COLLAGED (NON-)REALITIES” - Collage as a modern artistic concept, transfiguring our awareness of reality through the employment of juxtaposed heterogeneous elements, torn from their original context to create a whole new bizarre reality, transforming and remodeling the perception of space, time, form and meaning.
The films that would be selected for the competition program must correspond with the festival theme.
