Iñaki Aguilar is a filmmaker, writer, and director based in Madrid, with roots in Mexico City. He studied film at the University of Westminster in London, where he graduated with honors — receiving a First Class Honours — thanks to his 10,000-word thesis, awarded for its academic excellence and critical depth. His work examined hyperfemininity and neofeminism in the films of Sofia Coppola, exploring the aesthetic and political complexities of femininity in the contemporary imagination.
In 2024, he shot his first feature film titled Lujuria in Madrid — a low-budget production that nevertheless stands out for its visual sensitivity and bold treatment of themes such as desire, morality, and religion. Lujuria is currently in post-production and is set to premiere in the fall of 2025.
Simultaneously, he is preparing the production of his second feature film, Polyester, continuing his exploration of hybrid genres and intimate narratives through an auteur lens.
As a writer, he has published the novels Corpus Christi, Texas and American Homosexual, under the pseudonym Cruz Del Castillo. Both works reflect his creative universe: intimate, symbol-laden, and resonant with themes of borders, faith, flesh, and modern melancholy.
In March 2025, his sapphic horror short film The Exorcism of Dolores was awarded the Rivas Plató de Cine Award at the Rivas Film Festival.
He currently balances his creative work with independent projects that move between auteur cinema, psychological horror, and queer portraiture. His work continues to expand across festivals, artist residencies, and transdisciplinary collaborations between Spain, Mexico, and the United Kingdom.
