Imelda O’Reilly is an independent Irish born writer and filmmaker. Her award-winning short films and feature screenplay have been represented at over a hundred film festivals internationally, including Cannes Film Festival, Rhode Island International Film Festival, Cinequest Film and Creativity Film Festival, BAM, DOC NYC, Black Maria Film Festival, International Film Festival de Creteil, WorldFest Houston to name a few. As a commissioned writer on Song For New York with Mabou Mines her work was developed through the Sundance Theater Lab. Her piece from Song for New York was recently performed as part of the Mabou Mines 50th Anniversary this summer in New York City (2022). She is the recipient of a Fulbright Fellowship to Morocco where her film Bricks, Beds and Sheep’s Heads was a Regional Finalist for the Student Academy Awards. Imelda’s short film Eggs and Soldiers was broadcast on RTE and is distributed through ShortsTV Europe. It won a Tonino Guerra Award for screenwriting from the Chicago Art-house Blow-Up Film Festival. Her award winning most recent short documentary titled Tumbling Towards Home premiered at Cinequest Film and VR Festival in 2020 and won a Best Director Award at the Black Maria Film Festival in 2021. Her feature screenplay We’re the Kids in America was an official selection of L’Atélier Cinéfondation that is part of the Cannes International Film Festival for 2018. It also received an Honorable Mention from the Stowe Story Labs and “Best Of” competition from the Broadcast Education Association in 2019. It was workshopped through the Moving Picture Institute Screenwriting Fellowship. It placed in the top 10% of the Nicholls Fellowship in 2019. Her feature screenplay Beneath the Boy’s Cry was a Semi-finalist in the Nicholl Fellowship and won Best of Festival at the Broadcast Education Association in 2017. Imelda is currently in post-production on a short film titled Suspicious Minds. Her short screenplay Bad Timing received an Honorable Mention from Wiki The World’s Fastest Screenplay Contest and won Best Short Screenplay from Beyond the Curve International Film Festival in 2022. She is currently developing a feature screenplay titled Missives from the Misfits. Imelda has a collection of poems titled I Wake In Half Dream published by Lapwing Press. Other published work includes Lothlorien Poetry Volume 8 titled Echoes Dancing with Shadows in 2022, Galway Review (2022) and Prompt Press. Her poem Song For New York appeared in Mabou Mines 50th Anniversary Retrospective in NYC 2022. She was a featured poet alongside Suzanne Vega at The Players Theater in Manhattan. Recent poetry performances include Birdland & the Bitter End as a featured poet with Composers Concordence. Her fiction appears in Shenanigans published by Sceptre in the UK. Her plays have been produced off-Broadway in downtown Manhattan. She has an MFA in film with honors from Columbia University. She was an Assistant Arts Professor for NYU’s Graduate film program in Singapore.
