The 10th annual Imaginarium Convention will take place July 14-16, 2023 at the Holiday Inn Louisville East, in Louisville, Kentucky! This year will be a great milestone for the event celebrating the 10th Anniversary!

The Imaginarium Convention is centered entirely around professional creatives and the art of storytelling, including the worlds of movies, books, gaming, music, cosplay, art, and comics/graphic novels.

The Imaginarium Convention features extensive programming content, with panels and workshops presented across all three days of the event by over 200 professional guests!

Our panel and workshop programming covers topics in indie film, screenwriting, the craft of writing, a range of various genres, industry-specific topics, publishing, game design, and social media/publicity.

The convention features an all-genre independent film festival with a full array of awards, a masquerade/costume contest, live music, gaming, an expo, an awards banquet, a series of literary awards called the Imadjinns, film awards, and many more activities, creating a welcoming, inclusive atmosphere that is content-rich and ideal for networking, promotion and personal development.

The Imaginarium Convention's Independent Film Festival showcases an array of short films, feature films, documentaries, web series and music videos of all genres. Projects accepted into the film festival are evaluated by our jury for an array of awards that include several focusing on the storytelling/screenwriting components.

As a convention that celebrates the art and craft of storytelling, we strive to present a diverse range of quality independent projects in the festival, while giving additional spotlighting to the screenplays and screenwriting aspects of filmmaking.

I have watched this festival develop over the years and watched it's growing pains as well as it's successes. Since 2019 with a new film festival director in Erik Kyr this part of their development has flourished. This year marked it's most growth yet. For those getting started in the industry and those looking to give back who are more seasoned artists.

  • The film fest seemed to be the last thing the organizers paid much attention to. As a convention, it was great. But w/ so little attention paid to the film fest, there were very few people actually watching the films.

Next to no signage for the fest, no announcements for start times, etc. I got the feeling the film fest was looked at as a money-generator only, and wasn't taken seriously by the organizers.

For those of us who traveled HUNDREDS of miles to attend, it was a MAJOR let down.

    Response from festival:

Hi Michael, thank you for your response, and I am sorry to see that you were disappointed in your experience this year with us.

The film festival has always been a very important part of the convention for us. From the panels and workshops, to the juried awards process, to the screenings, we aim to do the best that we can with content for those interested in screenwriting and film.

With start times/signage, we did have full screening times featured in our downloadable PDF program, our print program handed out to all registered attendees, and our main site. An updated whiteboard was also positioned at the screening room with the screenings for each day as well. We moved the screening room from year 8 to where it was this year, directly across from our registration counter and main expo hall, to make the screenings more accessible/convenient to attendees.

There is variance in attendance of individual screenings, with some screenings being very well attended and others lighter, but we think that as the convention grows there will be a larger core of viewers that will be watching all screenings and we will do all we can to facilitate that.

We always take feedback seriously and have copied yours in our files. Every year we take steps to improve things for our participants, and I hope that you do come give us a chance again in our 10th anniversary next year, as we will certainly make some adjustments and improve things as best we can.

Take care and best wishes to you on your creative path.

  • I was real excited to be selected for Imaginarium this year and was real upset I couldn’t make it to the actual venue. I’m sure it was a great opportunity for many creatives to get together and network.
    So sorry I missed it.
