The Archaeological Museum Osijek is launching the 1st International Festival of Historical and Archaeological Film in November 2026. This new international cultural event is dedicated to films exploring archaeology, history, and cultural heritage.
The festival welcomes documentary, fiction, and experimental films of all lengths (short, medium-length, and feature films) produced by individuals as well as public and private institutions. Eligible films focus on archaeology and its methods, ethnoarchaeology, historical and archaeological heritage, heritage protection, and innovative research approaches.
The festival is open to filmmakers from around the world, from established professionals to emerging authors and students. Special encouragement is given to student submissions.
In addition to traditional formats, the festival includes an experimental film category, welcoming innovative and non-traditional approaches to historical and archaeological themes.
A competitive and non-competitive program will be presented. Films in competition are selected from international productions, and the audience will vote for the festival winner. A professional jury composed of experts in archaeology, film, and immersive technologies will award multiple prizes, with special support for low-budget productions.
