Houston Stories is a short film program spotlighting local voices during the Houston Cinema Arts Festival (HCAF), the city’s largest celebration of film and art. This year’s edition will be showcased in the Brown Auditorium at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, providing an elevated platform for Houston-based filmmakers to share their work with broader audiences.

Dedicated to amplifying the creativity, perspectives, and lived experiences of local artists, Houston Stories reflects the diverse voices, neighborhoods, and cultural landscapes that shape our city.

Selected Films will receive a $50 award honoraria, as well as a free All-Access Pass to the 2026 Houston Cinema Arts Festival, which takes place October 1-11.

1. There is no minimum length for films; however, submissions should not exceed 15 minutes.

2. This call is open to artists of all ages.

3. Artists must be based in or originally from Houston, Texas.

4. Films must have been shot in Houston, TX, at least partially, with the exception of animated films.

5. Submissions must have been completed within the last two (2) years.

6. The call is open to all genres, including animation, documentary, experimental, fiction, etc.

7. Multiple submissions from a single filmmaker or production company will not be accepted.

8. The applicant is solely responsible for obtaining copyright clearance for any copyrighted material used in the film. Films that include unauthorized copyrighted material will be deemed ineligible.
