The Highlands Roadshow is a showcase of local films and filmmakers from the Appalachian Highlands region. Events are held throughout Johnson City, TN and the surrounding area and sponsored by East Tennessee State University's Media & Communication Department and Highlands Horrorfest.

This season of the Roadshow will feature 3 different themes - Sports Media, Documentary & Narrative.

The screenings will take place for three consecutive Wednesday evenings in spring 2025:

March 26 @ 7pm. Yee-Haw Brewing Company. 126 Buffalo St, Johnson City, TN 37604.

April 2 @ 7pm. Tennessee Hills Brewstillery. 458 W Walnut St, Johnson City, TN 37604.

April 9 @ 7pm. Johnson City Brewing Boones Creek. 111 McClure Street. 2362 Boones Creek Rd, Johnson City, TN 37615.

In case of inclement weather, outdoor screenings will be rescheduled.

Best Short Film (Audience Award)

Any filmmaker in the Appalachian Highlands region is eligible to submit their short film (narrative, doc, or sports media). The cost is $15 USD to submit.

Any films made by ETSU Media & Communication Students or Graduates may be submitted for free.

By submitting your project, you acknowledge that you have read and agreed to all of the following rules and terms. Please thoroughly read the following before submitting your film:

HIGHLANDS ROADSHOW RULES & REGULATIONS

1. All film submissions must include a submission fee (unless you have a promo code) and a completed online FilmFreeway entry form. Film submission entry fees must be paid through the FilmFreeway portal as instructed.

2. All films must be 15 minutes and under in length. Digital files only.

3. All films must have some connection to the Appalachian Highlands region or the filmmaker or principal talent must be a native.

4. All films must either be in English or include English subtitles.

5. Once films are submitted, no alterations may be made unless given approval by programmers.

6. When final films are selected, filmmakers may be contacted to be interviewed for the Featured Filmmaker web series or for alternative film formats for programming purposes.

7. Films that have screened and or have received awards at other festivals can be submitted provided they adhere to all rules and regulations.

8. Only films that have been completed by January 2023 or newer will be accepted as part of the program.

9. Highlands Roadshow reserves the right to accept, reject, or disqualify any submission at its discretion without a refund. That said, it should be noted that we will watch every film received in its entirety.

10. Highlands Roadshow does not maintain ownership of any film submitted but does have the legal right to use images and as much as 30 seconds of footage for current and future promotional materials.

11. Filmmakers will be notified whether or not their film has been accepted to Highlands Horrorfest no later than March 24, 2025.
