This short documentary film concerns the life and works of my late partner, painter and AIDS activist Richard Hofmann [1954-1994], and includes footage from his 2017 solo retrospective at the Brooklyn Waterfront Arts Coalition.
Hi, I'm Heinrich von Kesseler.
Following two satisfying careers in both academia and financial technology, with a stint in the film industry working at Lucasfilm in 1984, I left Wall Street in 2020 to establish Artabolic Arts Management on a full-time basis.
Artabolic is devoted to the creation and preservation of historic and contemporary art, opera and literature by LGBTQ artists, composers and poets.
I first mounted an extensive solo retrospective of the artist Richard Hofmann (b1954 - d1994) in 2017. In 2019 I co-produced the artist documentary "Fear and Desire: The Life and Death of Richard Hofmann”, which received multiple awards in film festivals worldwide.
I was honored to show four major Hofmann canvases that same year in the "About Face: Stonewall, Revolt and New Queer Art" exhibition at Chicago's Wrightwood395 Gallery. Most recently in 2022 I curated the gallery show "Love and Kisses from the East Village, 1986” with selected Hofmann paintings, lithographs and watercolors made available as prints.
Another current project is the production of the Chamber Opera “A Thousand Words for Snow White / Mille Mots pour Blanche-Neige." This opera, with a libretto by a Belgian Symbolist poet, features music composed by Montreal's Marc Patch, and my translation bringing it into English.
